Kansas City is a city built on the shoulders of its nonprofit sector. With more than 12,569 registered 501(c)3 organizations and 117,196+ dedicated nonprofit workers, this sector drives meaningful change every single day. These professionals aren’t just strengthening our community, they’re impacting our local economy. Together, they annually contribute over $18.5 billion in revenue, employ thousands, and fuel social change that strengthens and uplifts our entire community (Nonprofit Connect, Kansas City).

How can we support them? Invest in the nonprofit sector.

That’s why the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and Nonprofit Connect are teaming up to bring the Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential, the only nationally recognized nonprofit credential, directly to Kansas City’s nonprofit workers. This partnership is more than a six-month training program; it’s an opportunity to gain the necessary skills to adapt and evolve in support of our city’s ever-changing needs for the benefit future of our sector.

Nonprofit Connect Brings Nationally Recognized CNP Program to Kansas City

Six Month Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) Program

“The nonprofit sector is more than just a set of organizations. To be successful, nonprofits need people — leaders, staff, and volunteers – to make the work of the organization possible,” said Dorothy Norris-Tirrell, Ph.D., ACNP, President of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. “Through this partnership, we’re providing Kansas City’s nonprofit leaders with training and confidence to create real change.”

Starting in April 2025, this nationally recognized 6-month CNP Professional Track training program will be available to members of Nonprofit Connect. Through a hybrid model of facilitator led online trainings and in person check-points along the way, participants will acquire the tools to build leadership, nonprofit management, and social responsibility expertise. Through Nonprofit Connect, members receive a discounted rate of $1,600, which includes tuition, all course materials, one complimentary ticket to Elevate 2025, and several networking opportunities with 12,500+ other CNPs across the nation.

The program will also include:

  • In-person networking sessions in Kansas City, designed to foster collaboration and community.

“Our mission is to bridge the gap in professional development for mid-career professionals, empowering them with the skills and support they need to lead with impact,” says Sidney Smith, Chief Operations Officer at Nonprofit Connect.

Why Now?

In an era of economic uncertainty and increasing social challenges, the role of nonprofit leaders is more critical than ever. Kansas City’s nonprofit sector plays a vital role in the local economy, but its impact hinges on skilled professionals who are ready to adapt and innovate. As the world continues to change, nonprofits remain a constant force for good. Programs like the CNP help ensure they stay relevant and continue to effectively serve their missions

Together, the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and Nonprofit Connect are building a future where Kansas City’s nonprofit sector remains a leader in both community impact and economic contributions.

Enrollment for Kansas City’s CNP cohort opens in March 2025, and space is extremely limited.
