Jeanette Gass, Advanced Certified Nonprofit Professional (ACNP), has been a reoccurring donor since 2021 after receiving her CNP credential in 2019, actively supporting the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance’s mission through both financial contributions and volunteer efforts on the Association of CNPs Executive Committee.
What drives someone to give so much of their time, energy, and resources to a nonprofit cause? To better understand where this passion comes from, we decided to go directly to the source and interview her!
A Commitment to Lifelong Learning
One core theme found in Jeanette’s professional journey is her commitment to lifelong learning and giving back to her community. She believes that continuous education is crucial for personal and professional growth, especially in the nonprofit sector. “Lifelong learning is about staying curious, open-minded, and adaptable. The world is constantly changing, and to be effective leaders, we must be willing to learn and evolve,” she emphasized.
Jeanette’s journey into the nonprofit sector is rooted in her aspiration to serve and support the members in her community. Reflecting on her motivation, she shared, “I was initially drawn to the nonprofit sector because of a personal experience that opened my eyes to the importance of community support and engagement. It made me realize that I wanted to be part of something bigger, something that could create lasting change.”
This realization led Jeanette to join the nationally recognized six-month CNP Professional Track Program through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, a decision she describes as life changing. “The CNP program provided me with the knowledge, skills, and network to truly make an impact. It equipped me with the tools to understand the intricacies of nonprofit management and the strategies needed to lead effectively,” she explained.
Her involvement with the Alliance goes well beyond her professional certification. She is an active donor, contributing financially to support the organization’s mission. “Donating to the Alliance is my way of giving back to an organization that has given me so much. It’s an investment in the future leaders of the nonprofit sector,” she said.
Leading by Example
Jeanette’s monthly contribution is just one aspect of her support to the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. Jeanette has also dedicated 4 years volunteering with the Association of CNPs Executive Committee. “Volunteering allows me to stay connected with the community and contribute in a hands-on way. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the direct impact of our efforts,” she shared.
As Vice President of the Executive Committee, Jeanette plays a crucial role in shaping the direction and initiatives of the Association of CNPs. She shares, “Leadership, to me, is about lifting others up and creating opportunities for everyone to succeed. It’s about fostering an environment where diverse perspectives are valued and innovative ideas are encouraged,” she emphasized.
One of Jeanette’s most significant contributions is her work in mentoring and inspiring the next generation of nonprofit leaders. You can find her speaking at universities and professional development events, sharing her experiences and insights with students and emerging professionals. “Mentorship is a way to give back and ensure the sustainability of our sector. It’s about guiding the next generation and helping them navigate the challenges and opportunities they will face,” she noted.
A Call to Action
Jeanette’s parting words serve as a powerful call to action: “Everyone has something to contribute, whether it’s time, money, or expertise. The important thing is to get involved and to find a cause that resonates with you,” Jeanette urged.
Her message is clear: the nonprofit sector needs passionate, committed individuals who are willing to step up and lead.
