In the bustling coastal city of Cotonou, Benin, in West Africa, one man stands out in the nonprofit sector: Norentz Gogan, a Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP). His life’s work revolves around empowering youth, fostering leadership, and driving social change. With over a decade of experience in educational program development, his story serves as a powerful reminder that CNP’s are beyond equipped to create a global impact.
The MilleMots Foundation
Norentz’s passion for making a difference began early in his career. “I believe that every person is on earth for a reason and must find and fulfill their purpose for their life to truly matter,” he says. This philosophy has driven him to help young people discover their potential and become committed solution makers.
In 2016, he founded the MilleMots Foundation, an organization that focuses on transforming every young person under 25 into a solution-maker by giving them the chance to practice leadership and develop soft skills through annual programs. Under his leadership, the foundation has flourished, touching countless lives and creating ripple effects of positive change.
But Norentz’s role extends far beyond the foundation. As the Executive Director, he coordinates the development of leadership programs and ensures their successful implementation. He also serves as the Director of the Solution Makers Academy, where he designs training programs and coaches individuals in self-discovery, public speaking, leadership, and soft skills.
“Each year, we host the National Public Speaking and General Culture Competition in multiple languages, including national languages, to address community issues,” Norentz explains. This event attracts over 5,000 participants annually, engaging young people aged 15 to 25 and providing them with a platform to voice their ideas and solutions for societal challenges.
Empowering the Next Generation
Norentz’s commitment to youth empowerment is commendable. He is deeply involved in various initiatives aimed at helping young people discover their purpose and develop essential life skills. “I am committed to helping every young person under 25 become a committed Solution Maker who can transform or add value to people’s lives,” he says.
Through programs like the National Public Speaking and General Culture Competition, he provides young people with opportunities to develop their skills and make meaningful contributions to society. The foundation’s work spans across generations, focusing on training elders so that they can guide and mentor the younger generation.
Norentz’s influence is not confined to Benin. Not only does he regularly speak at conferences in high schools and universities across Benin, but he also participates in sub-regional seminars involving more than 12 countries in Africa and Europe. His work as a consultant in leadership and youth capacity building has earned him recognition and respect on an international scale.
A Pathway to Greater Impact
In 2022, Norentz’s dedication to civic engagement was recognized when he became an alumnus of Kansas State University through the Mandela Washington Fellowship program. “The fellowship was a pivotal moment in my career,” he recalls. “It provided me with advanced training in leadership and civic engagement, equipping me with the skills and knowledge to make a more significant impact in my community and beyond.”
Earning the Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential has been instrumental in Norentz’s journey. “The CNP credential has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to lead effectively and make a greater impact,” he shares. The rigorous training and network of professionals that come with the CNP designation have empowered him to drive meaningful change.
“The CNP program helped me refine my leadership skills and provided me with a comprehensive understanding of nonprofit management,” Norentz says. “It has been a transformative experience that I would highly recommend to anyone passionate about making a difference in the nonprofit sector.” His story is a testament to how the CNP credential can amplify the impact of international nonprofit professionals, enabling them to address local and global challenges more effectively.
The Ripple Effect
Norentz Gogan’s journey is far from over. As he continues to lead, inspire, and empower, the ripple effects of his work spread further, touching more lives and creating a brighter future for many. Through his dedication and leadership, Norentz is transforming communities, one initiative at a time, and proving that with passion and commitment, we can all be agents of change.
For those inspired by Norentz’s story, pursuing a Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential with the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance can be the first step toward making a meaningful impact. As his journey shows, the possibilities are endless when you dedicate yourself to the service of others.
“The journey is challenging, but the impact is immeasurable,” Norentz concludes. “We all have the potential to be solution makers. Let’s embrace it and make a difference together.”
